The Harley-Davidson Pan America is a rugged motorcycle built for long-distance riding. This model should not be confused with the Harley-Davidson Street Glide or the Ultra Limited.

The Pan America is Harley-Davidson's first adventure touring bike. It’s a tool for long-distance excursions that’s equipped with plenty of amenities.

We sent two Trev Deeley staff members to the Mojave Desert to get on the Pan America for the ultimate learning experience.

There is no better way to learn about a motorcycle than by watching the experience first-hand. Check out Dan and Jeff's adventure on the Harley-Davidson Pan America in the Mojave Desert.

What’s Special About the Pan America That Makes It Great To Ride?

The Pan America is the lightest of Harley-Davidson’s touring models, making riding a breeze and perfect for long trips. The bike handles well and easily takes corners with its low center of gravity, giving riders a feeling of confidence and control. Five ride modes let you choose a bike setting based on your preference (Sport, Road, Rain, Off-Road, and Off-Road Plus). You can also create and save a custom combination of power delivery, engine braking, Cornering Enhanced Antilock Braking System (C-ABS), and Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System (C-CTS) settings.

Another benefit is the Adaptive Ride Height on the Pan America Special model. A factory-installed option that lowers the seat when you stop for a more confident, comfortable feeling. At speed, it keeps the suspension from sagging by adjusting the amount of preload, while continuously sensing how much weight you put on the seat.

The Harley-Davidson Pan America terrain adaptability

If you ride in British Columbia, you’ve probably ridden popular motorcycles routes repeatedly. The Pan America, opens up an extensive amount of new gravel roads that you wouldn’t have even thought about taking before.

The adaptability to go on long routes on and off the road brings a whole new meaning to Harley-Davidson touring.

Limits are thrown out the window as the Semi-Active front and rear suspension with 191mm of travel on Balance Free Fork fronts and Balance Free Rear Cushion-lite, which coil over the rear shock with electronic preload control and semi-active dampening. Creating an incredible ride, no matter what the terrain is.

Final Words

The Harley-Davidson Pan America has changed the game for motorcyclists. But there’s still a lot you might not know about this innovative bike.

1. The Pan America is different from other Harley-Davidsons in more ways than just its appearance. With a lighter chassis and a more powerful engine, the Pan America is built to be comfortable and stylish while also being easy to ride and powerful.

2. Loading Control: The system senses the weight of the rider, passenger, and luggage to select optimum suspension sag by automatically adjusting rear preload

3. It’s designed with seat height adaptability, making it perfect for short or tall riders.

4. Off-Road Ready: The 1250 Special comes off-road ready with an Aluminum skid plate, brush guards, steering damper, no-tool-needed adjustable brake pedal, semi-active front, and rear suspension.

5. Adaptive lighting: Advanced Daymaker™ Adaptive Headlamp Utilizing the ABS IMU to determine the motorcycle's lean angle, this system automatically projects additional light into corners to illuminate areas of the road that may be unlit by an LED headlamp without this tech.
